מעבר לתרומה הסביבתית, מערכות סולאריות מהוות מקור הכנסה פסיבי לבעליהן ועל כן רשות המיסים קבעה גם הטבות שונות שנגזרות מתנאי מיסוי מסוימים הנוגעים למערכות סולאריות. בתאריך 23/3/2016, ועדת הכספים של הכנסת ובראשה יו"ר הוועדה ח"כ משה גפני אישרה לשכירים פטור מחובת פתיחת תיקים במע"מ ובמס הכנסה לבעלי מערכות סולאריות.

במקור הבטיח שר האוצר כחלון כי פטור ממע"מ משמעו פטור מלא, אך בפועל קידום פטור מלא מצריך תיקון חקיקה ראשית ולכן ברשות המיסים מצאו דרך לאשר פטור מיידי ממע"מ בתקנות הרישום, אך אלה מאפשרות פטור רק למי שכל עסקאותיו הם ממכירת חשמל ולכן עבור שכירים/עצמאים שהם עוסק פטור, יחול הפטור כחלק ממסגרת הפטור הקיימת (99 אלף ש"ח)
• מי שכל עסקאותיו הן מכר חשמל ומחזור עסקאותיו לא עולה על 18,000 ₪ במנוחים של שנת 2008, יהיה פטור מרישום.
• מי שרשום כעוסק פטור ומחזור עסקאותיו הכולל, לרבות עסקאות ממכירת חשמל, לא עולה על 99,999 ₪ ידווח, אחת לשנה, על מחזור עסקאותיו גם ממכירת חשמל במסדרת הדיווח כעוסק פטור, דהיינו, על אף הדיווח השנתי עסקאותיו יהיו פטורות ממס.
• מי שרשום כעוסק פטור ומחזור עסקאותיו הכולל לרבות עסקאות ממכירת חשמל יעלה על 99,999 ₪, ישנה את סיווגו מעוסק פטור לעוסק מורשה וידווח על כל עסקאותיו כחייבות במס.
• מי שרשום כעוסק מורשה ידווח על כל עסקאותיו ממכירת חשמל במסדרת הדיווח כעוסק מורשה כעסקאות חייבות מס.
| בעלי מערכות סולאריות עסקיות
לבעלי עסקים אשר בבעלותם מערכת סולארית עסקית על גג הנכס או על כל שטח אחר, המדינה מעניקה הקלות מס שאמורות לסייע לכלכליות הפיננסית של התקנת המערכת, למשל בדמות פחת מואץ בשיעור של 25% בשנה לעסקים על ייצור חשמל ממתקנים סולאריים פוטו-וולטאים. הפחת המואץ, שהיה בתוקף עד סוף שנת 2015, זכה להתייחסות תומכת של יו"ר וחברי וועדת הכספים, אשר דרשו מרשות המיסים ומהאוצר להמשיך את ההסדר משנת 2015 ובתום הדיון החליטה הוועדה להגיש הצעת חוק פרטית בנושא שתובא לדיון מהיר.
בעלי עסקים שנמצאת בבעלותם מערכת סולארית לייצור חשמל סולארי ישלמו מס הכנסה בהתאם לשיעורי המס המשולמים בהתאם לרמות הכנסה אחרות.
